In recent years, Legacy Of Kain fans have been calling for a resurrection of the series, with the latest installment in the franchise released on Xbox, PS2 and PC in late 2003 as Legacy Of Kain: Defiance. When Square-Enix sold Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, Square-Enix Montreal and a host of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy Of Kain to the Embracer Group in early 2022, there was hope that the new franchise owner would revive the IP. who once was so loved. Now, the first signs of life have appeared, and while this isn’t yet confirmation that a new game is in development, it’s the best sign fans have received in almost two decades of silence.

Fans of the Legacy Of Kain franchise have reported on Resetera that they are receiving polls from Crystal Dynamics regarding the franchise in particular. After asking for basic player data, names, gender, available gaming platforms, etc., questions begin regarding the player’s experience with the franchise, whether they have played games from the franchise, or whether they have consumed content online, through platforms such as Twitch or YouTube, regarding IP.

The questionnaire then goes on to ask players if they consider themselves fans of the franchise, what games they have played in the past, and even a rating for every game you may have played. The line of questions then becomes more specific, asking players to name their most memorable moments from the games, how they would describe the Nosgoth setting, and even asking what the five main pillars of the franchise are.

It’s obvious that whatever Crystal Dynamics and Embracer Group are working on, they’re in the starting position, because Question 21 asks players what direction they’d like to see the franchise go, offering the choice of “Rebooting the Series,” A sequel to the original games”, “A remaster of one of the original games (i.e. improving the quality of one of the original games)” or “A remake of one of the original games (i.e. restoring one of the original games from scratch)”.

The survey is thorough and fairly open in its intention to get players involved in the development of any future Legacy Of Kain game, so if you’d like to take the survey, you can do so. here.
