The investigation began in July of the previous year when the managing director filed a complaint. The digital storage medium, a so-called hard wallet, was stored in a company office, to which the Linz native also had access through his professional work at the company. It happened between February and July 2023 inexplicable transfers of the Bitcoins stored on the hardware wallet, from which the entire amount is said to have been deducted from the Linzer. According to the police, the Bitcoin advisor may also have exchanged the USB-like device for another stick of the same construction.

When asked by the managing director regarding the missing sum, the 32-year-old Linzer gave a possible one Hackerangriff as the cause.

“It was a Sisyphean task when it came to providing evidence,” said the district commander of Urfahr-Environment, Erwin Pilgerstorfer, told the APA regarding the extensive investigations into the case.
