Rochester, Mich. – Women’s Soccer has just one game left in the season, and with the conference standings as tight as ever, they are looking to notch a crucial win once morest in-state rival Detroit Mercy.

In their most recent match, Oakland tied once morest a league-leading Milwaukee team. In a game where neither team was able to gain the offensive edge, Oakland looked strong with several opportunities spoiled by great goalkeeper play.

Oakland’s own goalkeeper Julia Zangerl continued her impressive freshman year, shutting out the Panthers in a division game for the first time this season while earning her fifth shutout of the year.

Zangerl ranks in the top ten in almost every major statistic among Horizon League goalkeepers, making a strong case for All-League honors.

Oakland has dominated the battle of I-75 in recent years, winning six head-to-head matchups with the Titans. Oakland hasn’t ended a game once morest Detroit Mercy with a loss since a 0-1 defeat in overtime back on Oct. 19, 2016. In the most recent matchup, Oakland ran away with a 4-0 victory at home on Oct. 26, 2022.

This upcoming match might be the most important one of the season for Oakland. They currently sit in fifth place in the Horizon League (5-5-7, 3-1-5 HL), and a win or loss might be the difference between being in or out of the Horizon League Championship Tournament at season’s end.

SCOUTING THE TITANS

Detroit Mercy enters the match with a 6-8-3 record (4-5 HL) and sits just two points behind Oakland in the standings with 12 points.

In the Titans’ last match they fell to to NKU 1-3.

Detroit Mercy’s Abbey Lodato is among the best players in the Horizon League. She is currently tied for seventh in the Horizon League in goals (6) and ninth in points (14).

Both teams look to rise to the occasion in a nearly must-win game this weekend!
