TSV Crossen has every reason to be happy. The new floodlight system went into operation in the sports forum on Straße der unit this week. On Thursday evening it was switched on for the first time and picked up by the city.
Club president Thomas Wunderlich is happy that it was finished on time before the start of the dark season: “This now absolutely increases the quality of training” – also with regard to the youth department of the club, which is literally exploding. In this way, additional training times might be offered in the evening.
The club has been dealing with the subject of floodlights for several years. Funding was the main problem. 85,000 euros were estimated, 20,000 of which the club had to pay for themselves. The money might only be raised through crowdfunding by Zwickauer Energieversorgung (ZEV). The city’s sports facilities funded the rest.
In addition, a covered grandstand for standing room and a seating area for spectators were built in the Crossener Sportforum this year. “The Sportforum has developed tremendously in recent years and we can all be proud of it,” said Wunderlich.
The only problem child remains the old gymnasium. It will continue to be repaired only to remain in operation. A renovation or even a new building is too expensive for the city. Even before Corona, experts had estimated the cost of this at more than three million euros.
