WAC professionals Luka Lochoshvili and Christopher Wernitznig are honored by the state of Carinthia for their courageous intervention at Austria’s Georg Teigl.
The two WAC professionals Luka Lochoshvili and Christopher Wernitznig were awarded the Cross of Honor of the State of Carinthia following playing for Austria player Georg Teigl. The duo acted quickly in the game once morest Vienna on February 27 when Teigl fell unconscious following a collision. The Austria player suffered serious head injuries but is now on the mend.
At the ceremony by Governor Peter Kaiser (SPÖ) on Monday, Wernitznig described the scene once more. He tried to get Teigl into a stable side position, as he learned in the first aid course. However, the injured person did not react. “I saw that once on a video and tried to catch the tongue so that it didn’t slip backwards, but I mightn’t because it was so cramped. But thank God Luka came and managed it, then he came around.”
Teigl thanked the Wolfsberg duo in the days following the game. On Sunday, WAC will once more be visiting Austria in the first round of the Bundesliga championship group.
