Cross-country skiing: Alvar Myhlback’s outclass: Took JVM gold against older skiers

17-year-old Alvar Myhlback makes his first JVM once morest skaters who are both one and two years older.

He started with a sixth place in the 20 kilometer freestyle a couple of days ago.

“Outclassing”

But when it came time for 10 kilometers in classic style with an individual start, there was no question.

Myhlback was completely superior when he won the gold.

– An outclassing. A guy in his own division, says SVT expert Anders Blomquist.

Already three kilometers into the race, Myhlback led by 15 seconds and therefollowing the lead increased all the time.

In the end, he was 52.4 seconds ahead of runner-up Isai Naeff, Switzerland, and 56.8 seconds ahead of third-place Mons Melbye, Norway.

“Everything just went my way”

Myhlback, who chose to stake during the race, had a good feeling all day.

– I felt it before the start, that if I don’t win today I will be washed or fall, he says.

– Everything just went my way all day. I don’t know what to say. I’m insanely happy.

The medal is the first Swedish distance in JVM context on the men’s side in ten years.
