Cross-border Worker Sentenced: Man Jailed and Fined for Reckless Driving Incident on Luxembourg Motorway

2023-08-19 05:00:00

A 41-year-old man from Léglise, cross-border worker, IT executive, who travels daily to the Grand Duchy, was sentenced to five months in prison and nearly €6,000 in fines, costs and compensation.

On February 1, 2023, around 8 a.m., the E411 motorway towards Luxembourg is, like every day of the week, completely saturated. Traffic jams start before the Sterpenich border post. A Mini pulls out and enters the much-maligned carpool lane, which is, as usual, completely unused. This lane is reserved for vehicles with three people on board (reduced to two recently) and requires not to exceed 50 km/h. The Mini took the opportunity to pick up speed and overtake the queues of cars. Passing under the nose and beard of two police bikers, the latter will obviously take charge of her, overtake her and order the driver to stop. The man in the suit and tie will pretend to ignore the orders of the police, however, having turned on their easily recognizable blue flashing lights. Finally, one of the two bikers on the road will block his way by stopping his machine in front of him. The Miini did not care and overturned the motorcycle and the policeman who found himself on the ground, injured on the road.

The defendant did not convince judge Philippe Nazé by claiming to have panicked. During the hearing instruction where he defended himself alone without a lawyer, he had vainly used some procedural elements to dismantle the elements of the file, Before regretting his act and agreeing that he deserved a sanction that he would accept without complaining .
