Controversy between the Gendarmerie and the Judiciary caused the revelation that Judge Daniel Urrutia, of the Seventh Guarantee Court, had granted benefits to four inmates of the High Security Prison.
According to what was reported by Meganoticias, on January 25, Urrutia would have allowed video calls between two inmates linked to the Aragua Train with people not authorized by the prison administration.
This measure, applied in a prison where there are dangerous criminals linked to organized crime, was questioned by the Gendarmerie, who stated that it “puts the safety of the staff and the imprisoned population at serious risk.”
The country’s main criminals remain held in the facility, most of them linked to organized crime and well-known gangs such as the Tren de Aragua and the Los Gallegos clan.
In addition, Judge Urrutia ordered the Gendarmerie to carry out an intimate visit to the inmate Rafael Marín Vielma, of Colombian nationality, who is serving a fifteen-year sentence for drug trafficking, despite the fact that in that maximum security prison there are no facilities for that end.
In statements to the aforementioned media, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Jaime Gajardo, stressed that “these are the most dangerous leaders of the criminal gangs that are plaguing the country’s security; Here we have the leaders of clans that have generated crimes that are horrendous: extortion, human trafficking, kidnappings, homicides. These people organize to commit crimes and, for this reason, we need them to break their link with the outside world.”
Measure was suspended
The dispute escalated to the Court of Appeals of Santiago, which issued an order not to innovate, that is, it suspended the application of the court order while it resolves the merits of the appeal filed by the Gendarmerie.
