The Vice President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner warned this Sunday that the “negative balance” in energy “was not caused by any politician or state company” but by a “multinational” that “from increasing fuel prices obtained extraordinary profits”, in reference to Repsol.
“We are not making a tirade once morest privacy, we are simply talking regarding the behavior of a company that might have been seen as the ideal”said during the inauguration ceremony of the President Néstor Kirchner Gas Pipeline.
And he added: “A large multinational that came and bought the YPF, the very essence of what is praised in all these business meetings: foreign investment in a strategic area. The result was the total emptying of YPF. In 2011, Argentina had a negative energy balance for the first time”.
The vice president said that despite the drop in gas and oil production, Repsol had “extraordinary returns.” And he recalled that in 2008 “nearly 3000 million dollars were transferred to its parent company in terms of profits. If one looks at the entire period, 42% of the dollars that were transferred abroad in profits belonged to a single multinational , Repsol, and the rest were from all the companies”.
Massa announced that the second section of the Néstor Kirchner gas pipeline will be tendered
“It’s not bad that it rotates its profits, the problem is when the company is going under and the country’s balance of payments is literally exploited as it is now, because it still happens to us,” he criticized.
“This negative balance was not caused by any politician or state company, it was a multinational that, by increasing fuel prices for Argentines, obtained extraordinary returns. This does not mean that what is private is bad, what is wrong is to generalize and say nonsense: that what is private is good and what is public is bad or vice versa. We Argentines have to get used to being able to objectively discuss our problems, especially when they are numbers.”
In addition, the vice president dedicated some criticism to former president Mauricio Macri and recalled: “The other big problem that all Argentines have, which is the return of the IMF to Argentina, was not brought by a politician. What’s more, in 2005 it was a politician who paid the IMF and was able to recover the helm of the Argentine economy and generate, for example, later we were able to recover YPF and achieve the best wages for our workers in Latin America.”
“The IMF was not brought by a politician, it was brought by a businessman. The one who was president was from the side of the businessmen,” he said. “The president who brought in the IMF was one of you, from the businessmen.” “This generalization and saying that businessmen are the best and politicians the worst, it seems to me that it is in itself a place that is exhausted,” he summarized.
