Former Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner demanded on Saturday, August 3, that the National Electoral Council (CNE) publish the minutes of the vote count in order to verify the results of the presidential elections held on July 28.

“It is clear that if this scrutiny, which was meticulously read yesterday (August 2) with decimal precision in each of the candidacies that were presented, was able to be carried out, it is because there is a support system that was hacked and there is another support system of minutes that were signed and sent to the CNE. I ask (the CNE), not only for the people, the opposition or for democracy, but for the legacy of Hugo Chávez himself,” said Fernández.

The former Argentine president also expressed her support for the joint statement issued by Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil; Gustavo Petro of Colombia; and Andrés Manuel López Obrador of Mexico. These three presidents requested that the minutes be published in order to verify the results issued by the electoral body.

“We are closely following the vote counting process and we call on the electoral authorities of Venezuela to move forward expeditiously and to make public the data broken down by voting table,” the Colombian government said in a statement.

This is the first public criticism of the Venezuelan electoral system that the former Argentine president has revealed.

The position of the Argentine foreign minister

For her part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina, Diana Mondino, recognized opposition candidate Edmundo González on August 2 as the winner of the Venezuelan presidential elections.

“After several days of the official electoral records of Venezuela being published in http://resultadosconvzla.comwe can all confirm, without a doubt, that the legitimate winner and president-elect is Edmundo González,” the official wrote on her social media account X.

The position taken by Mondino was made known after the staff of the Argentine embassy in Venezuela He left the country on August 1st following the decision by Nicolás Maduro’s government, announced last Monday, to expel diplomatic personnel from seven countries in the region for their positions on the president’s re-election on July 28.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) admitted an electoral contentious appeal filed by Nicolás Maduro in order for that judicial body to “verify” the results of the July 28 elections.

The appeal filed by Nicolás Maduro before the TSJ

The Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) of Venezuela summoned on August 2 the 10 presidential candidates of the elections of July 28 to appear before this body to sign a document to endorse the results issued by the CNE and approve the opening of an investigation that will be carried out by that jurisdiction, without providing further details.

Candidates Nicolás Maduro, Luis Martínez, Enrique Márquez, Javier Bertucci, Claudio Fermín, José Brito, Benjamín Rausseo, Daniel Ceballos and Antonio Ecarri attended the TSJ summons to approve that the Judiciary has jurisdiction to review the results of the electoral process.

Candidate Edmundo González did not attend the meeting at the high court office, while the candidate for the Centrados party, Enrique Márquez, did not sign the document because, according to him, he was not notified and did not have knowledge of the contentious appeal filed by President Nicolás Maduro.

“I don’t know what this is about. The Electoral Chamber admits an electoral contentious appeal by the President of the Republic. Against what (decision) is the President contesting, against his own proclamation? I must tell the country that I did not sign that notification because I did not feel notified (…) I hope that this matter is not used so that the CNE hides under the robes of the magistrates (…) I demand that the results be published,” Márquez stressed.
