At the center of the series is the married couple Noah (Harper) and Emma (Milioti). On a trip to the Cancun region of Mexico to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary, the couple find themselves entangled in a bizarre, unsolved crime that happened there 15 years earlier. Against the background of the clarification of the murderous events, it should also be regarding a comprehensive view of love and growing up that includes several generations. The format is essentially told on two time levels: on the one hand in 2007 and on the other hand in the present.
Other leading roles are played by Skyler Gisondo (“Santa Clarita Diet”, currently “Licorice Pizza”), Luis Gerardo Méndez (“Club de Cuervos”), Nina Bloomgarden and Gabriela Cartol.
Recurring supporting roles were cast by Debby Ryan (Insatiable), Michael Hitchcock (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Dylan Baker (Good Wife) and his wife Becky Ann Baker (Hannah’s mother in Girls), Ben Sinclair ( High Maintenance”) and Parvesh Cheena (“A to Z”).
Teachers Noah and Emma’s marriage is faltering as they travel to Mexico to celebrate their wedding anniversary. While Noah is actually quite happy with the marriage and the lack of variety in everyday life, despite the monotony, Emma wonders if that’s all there is to it.
Gisondo plays Sam, who is also vacationing here with his girlfriend and parents in 2007 – Debby Ryan plays Sam’s girlfriend Hannah, the two Bakers are Sam’s parents.
In both timelines, Méndez portrays Baltasar Frías, the head of hotel security at Oceana Vista Resort, who is constantly on the lookout for early signs of crime in his area of responsibility. Cartol plays Luna, the maid in 2007, who has made it to the concierge in the present.
Sinclair has taken on the role of hotel owner Alex, while Cheena and Hitchcock play other vacationers as gay couple Ted and Ted. Bloomgarden also makes a guest appearance – she plays Violet, who is traveling with her father and his new girlfriend.
The series is written by Andy Siara and produced by Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”) for Universal Content Productions.
