After terminating his contract with Manchester United and several weeks of speculation about his future, the Portuguese international finally joined the Saudi club, with which he has committed until June 2025. A choice which obviously surprised the world of football but which also disappointed many football observers and fans of the Portuguese star.
“I am a unique player”
Presented this Tuesday in front of his new audience and the 30,000 fans who came to welcome him, the former Real Madrid player explained his choice, while adding a layer of arrogance in his own way. “I did what I had to do in Europe. I played in the best clubs in the world and I won everything. I am happy and proud to join Al-Nassr. This contract is unique because I am a unique player.explained the 37-year-old striker.
Other clubs were interested in Ronaldo
And if for a while, CR7 seemed desperate to find a competitive club willing to take him on, with the latter claiming that many teams around the world were ready to sign him. “Now I can say that I had a lot of opportunities in Europe, several clubs in Brazil, Australia, the United States and even Portugal. A lot of clubs tried to sign me but I gave my word to this club for the opportunity to develop not only football but all aspects of this amazing country.”explained the native of Madeira.
And despite the various criticisms about him and his new club, the mythical number 7 ensures to make fun of it and defends the Saudi championship. “It’s not the end of my career in Saudi Arabia. A lot of people talk but they don’t know anything about football. It is a very competitive championship. I don’t care what people say about this choice. I made my decision and I’m happy with it.”he added.
