TV presenter Piers Morgan said that Cristiano Ronaldo is completely satisfied with the reactions that the fiery interview he conducted with him sparked.
The fans’ reactions were angry at Ronaldo’s statement that he felt betrayed by the club.
But Morgan said that he spoke with the player on Wednesday, following broadcasting part of the interview, and felt relief from the Portuguese star.
He added, “He knew what he wanted to say, the way he wanted it, and he knew what the reaction would be.”
In a statement to the BBC, the broadcaster of Talk TV, who considers Ronaldo a friend, explained that Ronaldo “does nothing without thinking carefully regarding it. He thought a lot regarding this interview.”
“support will come”
During the television interview, Ronaldo said that he does not respect his current coach, Eric Tanhag. He criticized his former Manchester United colleagues, Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville. He was not spared from his criticism of the club’s owning family.
Manchester United fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the statements of their team striker, and some of them refused his return to the club.
They accused him of destroying his footballing legacy at the club. Some of them believe that the aim of the television interview is to ensure his exit from the club, following he did not receive any offers during the summer period.
But Piers Morgan believes he will find a lot of support following people watch the full interview.
‘The worst year of Ronaldo’s life’
The broadcaster, who was a tabloid editor-in-chief, stated that he developed a friendship with Ronaldo over the years.
He indicated that he felt that Ronaldo was very grumpy, and “he finally called me, saying he wanted a big interview.”
He added, “He wanted to put things back in order, because all year he was the one taking the hits, and a huge amount of criticism.”
Ronaldo talks regarding a lot of problems in the club, but also in his private life, following he and Georgia Rodriguez announced the death of their child last year.
“So I think it was the worst year for Ronaldo in his professional and private life.”
He added, “Ronaldo wanted to talk regarding things as he saw them, because a lot of what was said and written regarding him is nonsense.”
And Morgan says regarding Ronaldo that he is “very frank regarding the mistakes he made, and he would not do them if he turned back time.”
He expressed his admiration for the Portuguese star “for his moral courage”, and believes that “he may not return to Manchester United”.
But he says: “I wouldn’t be surprised if he did great games at the World Cup finals and ended up signing for another big club.”
Young players have a lot of money
Ronaldo believes, according to his words with Piers Morgan, that young players do not work as hard as players of his generation.
“Obviously that doesn’t happen at Manchester United. Young players have a lot of money, and they don’t put in enough effort.”
“They do not seek to learn from a player like Ronaldo, and they are supposed to knock on his door every day in order to acquire what made him the best player in history.”
“I think it’s arrogance and indulgence.”
“That explains why Manchester United has become such a lousy team.”
“different personality”
In one of his articles dating back to 2008, Piers Morgan described Ronaldo as a “spoiled child”.
He says that he changed his mind regarding the player, following he got to know him closely.
He added, “Then you see who they really are, and now I see him as a different personality. For me, Ronaldo is a brave man. He is a loyal friend to many. He is a wonderful family man, and an outstanding player.”
