Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has apologized following a video clip appeared in which he appeared to break a fan’s phone.
Footage was shared on social media along with comments claiming he had smashed the device while leaving the pitch following his team’s 0-1 loss to Everton.
Ronaldo, 37, apologized on social media, saying “sorry”.
“It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments like the ones we face,” he said.
The result destroyed United’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, following they were defeated by Everton, who were above the relegation zone by one point before kick-off.
“We must always be respectful and patient and be an example to all the young people who love this beautiful game,” said the Portuguese player.
“I would like to apologize for my outrage and, if possible, would like to invite this fan to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship.”
Manchester United said it was aware of an “alleged incident following today’s game at Everton and that the club would cooperate with any police investigation”.
