London: Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal saved Manchester United from defeat in the English Premier League football match.
The match against Chelsea at home, Old Trafford, ended 1-1. Chelsea are third with 66 points from 33 games and United are sixth with 55 points from 35 games. Despite making great strides in the match, the loss of chances was a setback for Chelsea.
Chelsea created more chances from the start but failed to score in the first half. The result of the match would have been different had it not been for Kai Hawrats’ missed chances. Chelsea took the lead in the 60th minute through Marcos Alonso. Alonso United netted a brilliant shot from Howretz on a James cross. Chelsea’s lead lasted two minutes. Cristiano netted Matic’s pass with a superb finish. Then both teams tried to score but to no avail. Interim coach Ralph Ragnick has said that United’s finish will depend on Cristiano Ronaldo this season. Cristiano’s equalizer kept United’s chances of finishing in the top four. Ragnick evaded the question of whether the superstar would play under new coach Eric Ten Hogg.
Chelsea fans blame goalkeeper Edward Mendy for leveling a winnable match. They blamed social media for allowing Mendy to score a shot that could have been saved.
