Just days before the end of 2022, the political world finally finalized the Agreement for Chile that establishes the itinerary and the main guidelines for the drafting of a new constitution following the last proposal was rejected in the plebiscite on September 4.

However, recently there was already concern regarding the lack of progress regarding the drafting body of the charter and even from some sectors they alluded directly to Amarillos por Chile due to the complications in reaching a consensus.

In a new edition of the Interview with Tomás Mosciatti, we spoke with the leader of Amarillos por Chile, Cristián Warnken, who delves deeper into the role they seek to play both in the new constituent process and in the national political sphere.

political role

“We have people but we do not have a party structure such as mayors, seremis or other authorities. Articulating like this costs more and we are working on that today since it is important that there is a party like Amarillos in Chilean politics”he expressed.

And he added: “We were a group of 30 people who signed a manifesto, there was a gigantic void in the place that the center left had to use with more conviction.”

Likewise, the leader of Amarillos referred to the latest statements towards the collation by and the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá. “She was an unusual, unexpected capotera, they reviewed us in a way that caught our attention. We have never denied that we are a small group, it was an acceptable case to forge this agreement without the center left for the rejection.

“Ximena Rincón was not the only leader or representative of this world. We were the first who dared, they can’t ignore us so easily and we are not the shield of the right. I can’t understand what happened that changed the whole scene, ”she added.

Agreement for Chile

On the other hand, Warnken was emphatic in mentioning that he maintained his position in this new constituent beginning. “We were not going to do a somersault, I have capital from my career. It was a shared somersault of the sectors that participated in the negotiation”.

“We wanted to bring moderation to an uncertain period. That is called defending representative democracy. It was very dangerous to repeat the scenario of the Convention once more. You had to make sure via experts, try to find that containment that the previous process did not have ”settled.

In addition, he added: “We never said that we were going to throw the table but we had to explain to the public regarding the somersault. He was not going to sign an agreement that broke what the people were going to talk regarding, you have to die with your boots on. They all hit the somersault ”.

The experts

“Polls show that people want experts, they want to admire the political classes and they ask for excellence. The experts are people who generate a certain respect across the board, such as former rectors of universities, national awards, or former presidents, ”she maintains.

Regarding the edges or guidelines of this new process, Warnken affirmed that he agrees with the most essential ones and postulates that the role of the experts will be “to refine the gaps that remain, obviously we are going to find cracks.”

“The change is radical, we said how dangerous the blank sheet is. The important thing is that the party exists with an instrument of prudence and moderation that avoids the polarization to which we are heading, ”he persisted.

“I don’t know if we manage to establish ourselves and we can run out of conventions. Via experts, someone from Amarillos may be invited, ”she closed.
