Crisis in Cuban Milk Delivery: Impact on Children and Families

2023-11-09 18:30:43

“They are going to give half a liter of milk to children from 1 to 6 years old,” a worried reader from Villa Clara told Directorio Cubano.

“It doesn’t appear anywhere, but it is what they are giving them, things that were always sacred,” lamented a mother residing in that province, who assures that although it has not been officially made public, it is already a reality.

In the state media there is talk of the chaos that exists with the production and delivery of milk. In an analysis of food production and the energy situation in the territory of central Cuba, provincial governor Alberto López Díaz expressed: “we have to transform the reality that milk production faces today, we have to do it in the name of the people.”

So, according to reports CMHW, announced that he would “personally visit producers who today fail to comply with the contract.” “And not only me, but also senior government officials. Without extremism, but we will adopt the measures that are necessary,” he added.

The government also promised that, “with the Inspection Directorate at the helm, private businesses that sell dairy products will be reviewed and the legitimacy of the raw materials will be verified.”

MILK SHORTAGE IN CUBA AFFECTS DELIVERY TO CHILDREN

These visits began to take place and revealed a series of illegalities and lack of control on the part of the authorities.

For example, from Julio Hernández Lara’s farm, in the “Fidel Claro” Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS) of Camajuaní, they have not delivered a single liter of milk to the industry, it was announced in a new article from the local station. The provincial governor’s tour began this Wednesday to find out the causes that have led to non-compliance with the deliveries of this product.

In another town bordering Remedios, it was found “that milk is diverted and sold for fifty pesos per liter, that the dairy company ignores it in many cases and lacks commitment, as revealed during the tour,” the text states.

Likewise, in the municipality of Placetas, several producers were visited who this year have not delivered a single liter of milk.

In the “Juancito Martínez” CCS, several illegalities were found, such as “owners who died and have not yet been discharged, who changed their address and are included in the agreed plans and commitments.”

According to the information offered, “all the cases visited will be processed by the Agrarian Commission with the sole purpose of ordering a vital and very sensitive matter for the people such as milk production.”

Resigned, a mother comments to our page: “the babies have at least half a liter of milk. From then on nothing. It’s as if they stopped being children at 7. Before, they were sent invented soy yogurt, once yes and three times no. “It is difficult for Cuban mothers to be able to give breakfast every day.”
