Crisis even in the fog. Sparta is only fourth and Friis is raging: We have to give more to everything, there is no other way

The crisis has no end. Sparta won only two of the last ten competitive duels, in the league they got only four points in the last six duels and fell to fourth place. Outside the elite three, if we do not count the table after the first round, it is the first time since the 8th round of the 2022/2023 season.

They led twice in Mladá Boleslav, but the home team always managed to catch Prague by surprise. Stopper Martin Králik scored the final draw in the 83rd minute with a header.

“We knew what we wanted to play, we had a clear plan. Outplay opponents and use regions. But gradually we started having problems. We used the center more and one of the losses led to the first conceded goal. We just didn’t stick to the tactics,” Friis assessed.

It was actually the same story as in several past league duels. The defending champion from the last two seasons scored the first goal, but instead of increasing the lead, the opponent gets into the game and Sparta begins to have considerable problems. At the same time, it will cease to be dangerous in the forward direction.

“Of course we want to increase the lead, but we are not succeeding. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the opponents are going to attack more. We have to improve and solve this,” emphasizes stopper Elias Cobbaut, the scorer of Sparta’s second goal.

Sparta continues to be plagued by crucial absences. Martin Vitík, Veljko Birmančević, Lukáš Haraslín, Ermal Krasniqi, Angelo Preciado, Asger Sørensen, Jaroslav Zelený or Imanol García were not at the match. And another problem is the defense, the people of Prague have already scored 18 goals in 14 duels played.

“We have to fight harder for every win than we had to two months ago. We don’t get chances that easily, it’s not a matter of course for us to keep a clean sheet. We have to give 200 percent more to everything, there is no other way to better results and performances,” appeals Friis.

The duel in Mladá Boleslav was also accompanied by bad weather in places. Not so much cold, with temperatures dropping to zero, but rather fog. Visibility gradually worsened in the first half, after the break referee Jan Všetečka brought an orange game ball. This was followed by an agreement with both captains and members of the implementation teams.

But there was a maximum effort to finish the match. And the rule that is also practiced on the international stage was used, that is, if you can see from one gate to the other, the situation is not so critical that the duel has to be ended or interrupted prematurely.

“It was fine at the beginning, but at the end, when our goalkeeper Matouš Trmal was kicking out, I didn’t even see him. It was difficult, but I’m glad the match took place. And we’re going home,” Matyáš Vojta, the author of the home team’s first goal, told O2 TV.

“I’m not really hot, but I don’t care. We have to run and work – then one is not cold,” stated Victor Olatunji, the scorer of Sparta’s opening goal, on the other hand.
