Italy, Austria and Spain are the most popular holiday destinations for 2024
The European Travel Insurance newsletter subscribers are travel-savvy and travel-experienced. 96 percent of planned vacations are implemented; inflation has a small influence on vacation planning

Vienna (OTS) – For the third time, European Travel Insurance is publishing the results of a community survey that examines vacation plans and trends. Of the newsletter subscribers surveyed, 96 percent traveled as planned in 2023. 75 percent of the trips took place within Europe, more trips than planned were taken to Asia and as cruises. Inflation and political unrest have little impact on the number of trips planned for 2024. There is still a desire for more information regarding travel insurance services and travel safety tips.
“European Travel Insurance newsletter subscribers are travel-savvy and travel-experienced. 96 percent of planned vacations are actually implemented; inflation has a small influence on vacation planning,” explains Wolfgang Lackner, CEO of European Travel Insurance.
The most popular travel countries for 2024 are Italy, Austria and Spain
Austrians prefer to plan holidays by the sea and in Austria. In 2024 they are planning trips to Italy (18%), Austria (18%) and Spain (11%). This corresponds to the information for 2023, in which these countries also formed the top 3 most popular holiday destinations.
Crises and inflation have no influence on travel behavior
Corona has changed the security needs of Austrian holidaymakers: Travel insurance premiums have also grown in 2023. In addition, last year’s inflation and crises had no impact on the community’s travel behavior: the planned travel frequency hardly differs from the previous year. This is shown by a direct comparison with the values from the survey from 2022: 96 percent of those surveyed traveled in 2023 as they had planned in 2022. On average, our customers make 1.7 trips per year. One in five people have even taken three or more trips.
Information regarding safety in the travel destination is in high demand
Despite the great desire to travel, security awareness is still high: 56 percent say they would like more information regarding the security situation at their vacation destination and the current entry regulations. When asked regarding their wishes for travel insurance, 63 percent also wanted to find out more information regarding the specific services. European Travel Insurance is therefore in constant communication with its customers before and during a trip in order to increase their sense of security.
