Criminal network illegally exploited gold mines in Antioquia

The National Police managed to dismantle a criminal network and capture alias ‘El Cero’, who was engaged in illegal gold mining in alliance with the Clan del Golfo.

Alias ​​’El Cero’ was a worker at a well-known international mine in Antioquia. This man was allegedly leaking company information to the Clan del Golfo.

The data shared by the accused included detailed information on topographical work and access routes to the mine, which allowed the criminal organization to exploit the deposit clandestinely and generate millions in profits.

Authorities have arrested four people involved in gold mining.

The criminal network generated more than $15 billion pesos annually through its illicit activities, of which 10% was used to finance the operations of the Gulf Clan.

A judge charged alias ‘El Cero’ with the crimes of illegal exploitation of a mining deposit, conspiracy to commit a crime, damage to natural resources, ecocide and environmental contamination due to the exploitation of mining deposits or hydrocarbons.
