Criminal law expert from Trisakti University Abdul Fickar Hadjar criticized the panel of judges’ decision to acquit Gregorius Ronald Tannur in the Dini Sera Afrianti murder case.

According to him, the judge should consider all the evidence in making a decision that has been examined in court.

“Even if the judge will not use it in his decision, the evidence must be considered with his arguments,” he said when contacted by Media Indonesia, Monday (29/7).

The problem, continued Fickar, in this case the judge only considered evidence that could acquit the defendant in this case Ronald Tannur.

“It is true that there were no witnesses who saw the defendant’s car run him over, but both witnesses and CCTV clearly saw Tanur abusing his girlfriend or victim, there were witnesses and CCTV,” he said.

“But that was not taken into consideration, so this decision is unfair,” he added.

Therefore, he hopes that the Judicial Commission (KY) will immediately examine the panel of judges at the Surabaya District Court even though no report has been received.

If it is proven that the judge accepted something in acquitting Ronald Tannur, then the KY will immediately recommend dismissing the judge.

“Even if there are criminal elements, both can be forwarded to be processed in criminal court,” concluded Fickar.

On Wednesday (24/7), the panel of judges at the Surabaya District Court, East Java, acquitted Gregorius Ronald Tannur, the son of former member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Edward Tannur, of all charges in the assault case that resulted in the death of his girlfriend, Dini Sera Afrianti.

Previously, Surabaya Police have set Article 338 of the Criminal Code on murder against suspect Ronald Tannur who took the life of his lover. Ronald was charged with Article 351 and 359 of the Criminal Code on abuse and negligence with a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.

Police investigations revealed that the assault occurred after the couple spent the night at an entertainment venue in the West Surabaya area.

In addition, the Central Executive Board of the National Awakening Party (PKB) has also officially suspended PKB Faction DPR member Edward Tannur from his membership in Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives due to the case involving his son. (Far/Ant)
