A case of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever was detected in a patient at the Dalal Jamm Hospital Center on April 23, a statement from the Ministry of Health announced.
The Health Emergency Operations Center (COUS) has been activated by the health authorities.
According to the World Health Organization, Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is an endemic disease in Africa, the Balkans, the Middle East and Asia, “in countries below the 50th degree of latitude north, geographical limit of the main vector species, a tick”. It is caused by a virus (Nairovirus) of the Bunyaviridae family, transmitted by ticks. It causes outbreaks of severe viral haemorrhagic fever, with a case fatality rate generally around 30%.
