A massive fire broke out on Saturday at an oil depot in Sevastopol, the main port of the Russian Black Sea fleet. According to the local authorities, the fire allegedly broke out following a drone attack, attributed to the Ukrainians. Mikhail Razvojayev, the governor of Sevastopol, quoted by Ria Novosti, stated on Saturday at noon that the fire spread over an area of 1000 square meters, but there are no dead or injured and that the situation is already under control, for its extinguishment fighting over 60 firefighters. Civil infrastructures are not threatened, Razvojaiev also said, but four oil tankers burned in total. The Russian press agencies, taken over by France Presse, claim that, since the start of the Russian offensive in Ukraine, on February 24 last year, Crimea, a peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014, has been the target of alleged aerial drone attacks and marines launched by the Ukrainians. Even at this moment, the Crimean authorities have announced the cancellation of all festivities on May 1 and 9, which will be celebrated with pomp in the rest of the Russian Federation, citing “serious security reasons” in the peninsula.
