As the “Salzburger Nachrichten” reported on Friday, traces of the missing person’s blood were found on a towel in the apartment of the two half-brothers. The older suspect said he used it to clean the back seat of the BMW bought by the alleged victim.
Police forensic scientists had previously discovered the missing person’s blood in the trunk of the car. In addition, the two Hungarians – 19 and 25 years old – are charged with mobile phone data and witness statements. The two suspects were apparently seen in a campsite parking lot, where they may have disposed of two flower boxes that the victim bought just before he disappeared.
At the end of last year, the Iraqi put his powerful black BMW X6 up for sale on Facebook for 17,000 euros. A meeting with one or both of the accused is said to have taken place on January 2, 2023. Since then there has been no trace of the man, the car was later secured from the older of the two half-brothers.
Iraqi was near the accused’s home
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the victim’s iPhone XS Max, which is still missing, was last logged in on January 2 at 3:06 p.m. in the city of Salzburg – according to the data analysis, not far from the suspect’s apartment. According to the missing person’s partner, it was agreed that he would take the car to the buyers and let them drive him home.
The 25-year-old suspect is said to have driven around a lot in the vicinity of the state capital on the same evening and in the night of January 3 – this is shown by the analysis of his mobile phone data. According to the “Salzburger Nachrichten”, this raises the suspicion that the two half-brothers killed the Iraqi and then possibly looked for a place where they might dispose of the body.
Entangled in contradictions
The older of the two suspects has been in custody since January 22. His 19-year-old half-brother turned himself in to the police in the city of Salzburg on February 14 following he had already been wanted on a European arrest warrant. Both men are currently in custody and deny having anything to do with the disappearance of the Iraqi. According to the spokesman for the Salzburg public prosecutor’s office, the half-brothers got caught up in contradictions during their interrogations – for example, whether the younger of the two men was present when the car was handed over or not. The 19-year-old Hungarian has three previous convictions, the 25-year-old has no criminal record.
