Crime in Bunia: The Yira community describes the killing of its members as a manhunt

Bunia, March 16, 2024 – The Yira community living in the province of Ituri in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo continues to count the deaths of its members.

The recent case recorded is that which occurred on Thursday March 14 in the Sukisa district in the Mbunya commune in the town of Bunia, in Ituri, where a young man motorcycle taxi driver was shot dead by armed bandits in this corner of the capital of the province of Ituri.

Its president Mufalme Ezechias, who condemns this growing crime which targets members of the Yira (Nande) community of Ituri, takes stock of 6 people from this community already killed in less than three months, from January 2024 to our days.

“This is the sixth case of killing since the beginning of 2024, Jonathan Manirio, a taxi driver in his state, is killed by bandits who disguised themselves from customers, we are really tired of seeing our brothers lose their lives like this”he regretted

And to add, “The mission of the government or the State is to guard the population and its property and if the State is not doing this, what it is failing in its mission and if we are failing in a job we leave it without problem. Cases are repeated against members of the same community, it’s like a manhunt.”

To demonstrate their discontent, taxi drivers and members of this community took to the streets to denounce this increase in killings.

This demonstration paralyzed activities on Friday March 15, 2024 in Bunia town. Shops, stores and many other activities did not operate normally, it was noted.

According to President Mufalme Ezechias, a series of days will continue for two days, not only in memory of the illustrious deceased, but also to all the others who lost their lives in Bunia and in Ituri in general in the same circumstances.
