CRIEF: Damaro’s trial postponed

2023-10-05 12:54:17

The trial of the former President of the National Assembly, Amadou Damaro Camara, has been postponed until Monday October 9, 2023.

The dismissal was decided due to the unavailability of one of the members who make up the CRIEF Judgment Chamber. “At the last minute, we were informed of the unavailability of one of the Court’s advisors due to illness. For this reason, the composition cannot be regular. The file was postponed until Monday October 9, 2023,” explains Mr. Lanceï 3 Doumbouya, one of Amadou Damaro Camara’s advisors.

The trial which involves this former high official of the Guinean state opened on March 20, 2023. Since then, Amadou Damaro Camara has always been conspicuous by his absence for “health” reasons.

This Thursday, October 5, his lawyer confirmed his client’s willingness to come and answer before the judge, even if Damaro had not yet arrived at court. His co-defendants Zeinab Camara (Zée Pharel), Michel Kamano and Jun Sen Cheng were already in the courtroom of the Court for the Repression of Economic and Financial Offenses (CRIEF).

The former President of the National Assembly is being prosecuted for alleged acts of “embezzlement of public funds, illicit enrichment, money laundering, corruption in the public and private sector, illegal taking of interests and complicity”.
He has been in detention at the Central House of Conakry since April 27, 2022.
