Sydney: Justin Langer has resigned as coach of the Cricket Australia team. Earlier, a complaint was lodged once morest the coaching style. Andrew McDonald’s assistant coach of the Australia team is in interim charge. Cricket Australia later said in a statement that it would enter into private talks with Justin Langer and a decision would be made soon. Langer and Cricket Australia have a four – year contract. The resignation comes as it nears the end of June.
Langer’s coaching led to the return of Australian cricket following the ball-scratching controversy, with Australia winning the Ashes series and the Twenty20 World Cup for the first time in history. However, the senior players’ opposition to Langer’s headmaster style has made the extension of the contract uncertain. Australia’s next mission is the five – match T20 series once morest Sri Lanka. It will be followed by a historic 24-year tour of Pakistan.
Cricket Australia said in a statement that it had promised to extend the contract for a while but Langer was unwilling to accept it. But former Australian cricket team captain Ponting has accused Langer of being dropped by Cricket Australia.
Langer was recently inducted into the Cricket Australia Hall of Fame. Langer will be replaced by former England coach Trevor Bayliss and Ricky Ponting.
