The life thread of 33-year-old Manolis was cut an expired flare which exploded in his hands on Sunday night, plunging Agios Nikolaos Lassithiou into grief.
According to cretalive, the 33-year-old, together with two friends of his age, were having fun on a pedestrian street in the city of Agios Nikolaos, having with them nautical flares, which they lit. At one point he wanted to light one more. The 33-year-old was holding the flare in front of his stomach, with eyewitness testimony stating that the flare did not light, with the man making an effort to light it, until it exploded.
Two arrests in Agios Nikolaos for the death of the 33-year-old by a flare
The man was taken to the Agios Nikolaos hospital, but a short time later, he succumbed to his injuries.
The naval flares, used and unused, have been confiscated (some fired flares were found at the scene, while one of the two friends of the unfortunate young man handed over two more to the authorities), however, through the testimony of one of the arrested, it appears that some were expired. Given that they had used it in the past, the young men thought that there would be no problem this time when firing them.
It is noted that in the past, according to information known to the Police, the 33-year-old had an accident, with an injury to the fingers of his hand from the use of firecrackers.
His two friends, who are in a state of shock, have been arrested for illegally possessing and setting off the naval flares. Possibly one of them will also be charged for their disposal.
