Cree patients from Chibougamau are still in Montreal because of the air quality that is deemed inadequate in their city for their fragile health; they had to be relocated once more due to the Grand Prix.

The dialysis unit at the Montreal General Hospital was able to accommodate patients so they might get the care they needed.

Patients from the establishment were transferred to other hospitals, in particular to the CHUM, to free up beds for patients in Nord-du-Québec.

“It was really a team effort,” says nephrology physician Laura Horowitz. No one lacked care.”

However, some patients denounce their accommodation situation.

First housed in the Espresso hotel, they were told on Wednesday that they had to be relocated elsewhere, among other things to accommodate Grand Prix tourists.

Many patients say they are tired and can’t wait to go home.

“I can’t wait to go back to see my family, shares patient Jack Otter. My son was alone there. He went to Quebec, a chance that my sister brought him with her.

They will be able to return home as soon as the air quality improves sufficiently.
