L’Espresso’s article, entitled “Greece is ahead of us in terms of citizens’ rights. Italy will be the only country without equal marriage for same-sex couples”, he addresses the broader center-left on the occasion of the bill on the marriage of same-sex couples expected to be approved today Thursday (15.02.2024) by the Parliament.
“Greece, despite having a conservative government, in recent years has proven to be able to approve important reforms in favor of the LGBTI+ community, such as the abolition of the rule that prohibited homosexuals from being blood donors, but also the abolition of surgeries for the so-called normalization gender of the children”, notes the form and adds:
“With the approval of the law on the right of same-sex couples to marry, Italy – which meanwhile restricts the rights of Rainbow families – will be the only country in western Europe not to grant the right to civil marriage, along with states which once belonged to the Soviet Union and some small countries, such as San Marino and the Vatican”.
L’Espresso adds that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called the law passed today “a step that leads to greater social justice” and underlines that the Greek LGBTI+ community would also like surrogacy to be allowed, while the Orthodox Church has declared once morest in the approval of this law.
