The French financial group Crédit Agricole is close to an agreement to acquire the Belgian asset manager Degroof Petercam, according to the financial news agency Bloomberg on Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The discussions are, it seems, well advanced and the Belgian company would be valued at more than one billion euros in the transaction. However, according to these same sources, the agreement might still fail.
ABN Amro also wanted to acquire the Belgian asset manager, but interest from the Dutch bank has recently cooled, according to Bloomberg.
Degroof Petercam was created in 2015 from the merger of Degroof and Petercam and manages some 70 billion euros.
