Creator of “Dragon Ball” dies

“He still had many things to achieve. But he left this world many manga titles and works of art,” said Bird Studios, founded by Toriyama.

Born in 1955 in Nagoya, central Japan, Toriyama was already known for his manga “Dr. Slump” when he created “Dragon Ball” in the early 1980s. The series tells the story of the boy Son Goku, who collects magic balls. “Dragon Ball” has been adapted many times for television, cinema and video games.

In an interview he once said: “It’s like a miracle that Dragon Ball has become a worldwide hit. Especially considering that the series helped someone like me, who has a twisted, difficult personality, have a decent one to do a job and be accepted by society.”
