Are you thinking of switching from Twitter to Mastodon, but find the social network too complicated to use? Know that there is already an application that promises to make your experience on the platform much simpler and more intuitive.
I speak of Mammothan alternative client created by the developer Shihab Mehboob — known for his work on (deceased) Aviary, for Twitter. Launched today for iPhones and iPads, the app has support for all Mastodon features and even brings some extra interesting options.
One of the main complaints from Twitter users trying to venture into Mastodon for the first time is the social network’s server system. While it’s also possible to browse other communities using Mammoth, once you create an account, it drops you into the client’s default feed — so you’re already using the app in a few taps without worrying regarding where to go.
Speaking of account, there is another advantage of Mammoth compared to other clients for Mastodon: it is possible to create an account, upload a profile picture and everything else directly from the app, without having to first go through the native client of the social network.
The app, according to Mehboob, was made from the ground up with iOS/iPadOS in mind — and it’s the only one on those platforms that supports all of Mastodon’s features. It’s also extremely customizable and lets the user change things like the app’s color, icons, and even how many posts are displayed at a time in the feed.
Mammoth also supports Siri Shortcuts, iOS sharing extensions and allows the user to unlock the app using Touch ID or Face ID.
It supports the following languages: German, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Danish, Spanish, Finnish, French, Hindi, Dutch, Hungarian, Indonesian, English, Italian, Japanese, Malay, Persian, Polish, Romanian , Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese and, to our delight, also the Portuguese.
The app is now available for download and is completely free. You must have at least an iPhone/iPod touch running iOS 14 or an iPad running iPadOS 14 to install it.
