Promoting sustainable livelihoods for small-scale farmers, especially women and ethnic minorities, is the goal of the “Strengthening-Sustainable Livelihood Development” project.

The signing ceremony to receive and kick off the project took place on the followingnoon of February 9 organized by CARE International in Vietnam, the People’s Committee of Buon Ho town in collaboration with the Community Development Center.

The project will be implemented until the end of August 2024, focusing on supporting farmers in Ea Drong and Cu Bao communes, Buon Ho town, Dak Lak province. The project aims to promote the development of livelihoods for smallholder farmers, especially women and ethnic minorities, by supporting people to have the means of production, market information and necessary resources. set.

The goal is to benefit and improve the lives of more than 4,000 women and ethnic minorities in Buon Ho town.

Ms. Vu Lan Huong, Project Manager of CARE International in Vietnam, said that Buon Ho town is an area with a lot of potential for agricultural development, but it has not been properly exploited and developed. In addition, the locality has a large number of ethnic minorities, facing many difficulties in accessing production resources and markets for economic development.

The project “Strengthening yourself-Developing sustainable livelihoods” focuses on 3 main areas: improving capacity and capacity in livelihood development (capacity for cultivation and husbandry); improve skills in accessing capital and financial management to serve production and business; and market access and product consumption.

At the same time, the project goes hand in hand to strengthen the connection between members of the community, promote the voice and role of women from production to consumption.

Participating in the project, people are trained in farming techniques, financial management training in households and production and business planning, connecting with actors in the value chain, etc. Also looking for development opportunities OCOP products local, deep processing of agricultural products.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Buon Ho town Dang Gia Duan said that the town currently has 113,076 people with 22 ethnic groups living together. The town’s people participate in agricultural production for a large proportion. Agricultural production in the area still follows the traditional method, which is fragmented, small and spontaneous; there is no deep linkage model, forming key product chains.

The Party Committee and the town government are always concerned regarding how to change the perception and thinking of farmers from traditional agricultural production to agricultural economic development. The town respects and always takes advantage of approaching projects.

Party committees, town authorities expect, the project “Reaching out-Developing a sustainable livelihood“will contribute to changing the perception of agricultural production of ethnic minoritycontribute to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and improvement of people’s quality of life.

The People’s Committee of the town assigned the Economic Division of the town to act as the focal point to monitor and coordinate the implementation of the project to achieve the set goals; assigned the People’s Committee of Ea Drong commune and the People’s Committee of Cu Bao commune to coordinate in surveying and evaluating the results of the beginning of the project period; planning, discussing with groups of households and communities to implement the aid in accordance with regulations, so that the project can be implemented effectively and closely to the needs of farmers./.
