Rabat – The Ministry of Justice as well as that of Solidarity, Social Integration and the Family have put in place a vision to create establishments which will be in charge of accommodating and protecting child victims of rape, said indicated Monday the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi.

In response to an oral question on “the aggravation of deterrent sentences for the rape of children”, posed by the Haraki group during the session of oral questions in the House of Representatives, Mr. Ouahbi specified that this approach aims to bring support for victims and to isolate them from the environment in which they suffered the rape.

He stressed, in this sense, the need to cancel the mitigating circumstances of the criminal provisions relating to the rape of children and not to take into account the waivers of the parents and guardians of the victims, in the light of the recent crime of rape of a child in the city of Tiflet, for which the Rabat criminal appeal chamber handed down sentences ranging from 10 to 20 years in prison for the three defendants involved.

The Minister also stressed the need to follow up cases of child victims of rape and provide them with psychological and social support, while preserving and protecting the rights of children, “including their physical integrity and the respect for their entity and their existence”, indicating that the criminal law has been reviewed to protect this international legal principle.
