2023-05-29 07:31:31

On the occasion of World Multiple Sclerosis Day, which takes place on May 30, the City of Nice, the National Space for Ethical Reflection on Neuro-Evolutionary Diseases and the Nice University Hospital are joining forces to organize a citizen forum. This event aims to allow people with multiple sclerosis and their caregivers to express their expectations and their difficulties with this disease.

Nice, a welcoming city for people living with a neuro-evolutionary disease

The main objective of this forum is to mobilize the greatest number of people in order to Nice the first city made aware and welcoming for all people living with a progressive neurological disease. Whether you are directly affected by a neuro-evolving disease such as multiple sclerosis, or you are a caregiver, your participation is essential.

The citizen forum will be held this Tuesday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Pasteur 2 (Zone C, 6th floor/ 30 Roman road, Nice) and will offer a space for open and benevolent dialogue. Participants will have the opportunity to answer different questions aimed at guiding their reflection on key topics related to the daily life of people with neuro-evolutionary diseases and their caregivers.

Participants will be invited to share their experiences and suggestions concerning the following areas:

  1. Businesses – Are you comfortable when you have to go shopping, in a local business, a supermarket or a hypermarket? Would you like shopkeepers and supermarket cashiers to be more aware of your situation? Could a specific welcome be useful to you?
  2. Culture & leisure Can you easily access places of culture and leisure? What adaptations do you think should be imagined to make these places more accessible and welcoming to people with neuro-evolutionary diseases or their caregivers?
  3. Mobility – Do you encounter any particular difficulties when you have to travel (on foot, by bus, by tram or by train)? What facilities would make your travels easier?
  4. Health – Do you encounter any particular difficulties during your medical appointments or during visits by professionals to your home? At the hospital, do you think that the reception is adapted to your situation?

All contributions and exchanges during the citizen forum will be confidential and will be exclusively within the framework of this project. However, people who cannot be present will also be able to send their suggestions by e-mail to the following address: ethiquemne@gmail.com.

In addition, to mark this world day, several buildings and emblematic sites of the city of Nice will be lit up in blue as soon as night falls. Among them are the Town Hall, the Bellanda Tower and the Phoenix Park greenhouse. This initiative aims to raise public awareness of multiple sclerosis and to show the support of the City of Nice for the cause.

By encouraging the participation of all citizens, Nice wishes to create an inclusive and caring environment for people with neuro-evolutionary diseases. The citizen forum is an important step in raising awareness and implementing concrete changes to improve the daily lives of people affected by these diseases.
