the madrilenian Virginia Torrego and the Bilbao Jorge Fernandez Alday They landed in Menorca one February thirteen years ago to enjoy a stay as a gift for her birthday. In the middle of winter they toured the Island, which captivated them and, following the trip back to Madrid, they decided to go back and set up a art school through which hundreds of people, children and adults, have passed. This June they have closed Create Creative Space to start new projects outside the Island.

“From the first moment it was a crush, as we told him, and on the return trip to Madrid we decided that we were coming to live here, we left our whole life, our art school in Madrid that worked perfectly. Our passage through here was in winter, with north wind, raining and cold, but we didn’t care, I don’t know what you have here that the Island absolutely captivated us. So we closed little things there and we came to live in Menorca, we didn’t think twice regarding it”, say Virginia Torrego and Jorge Fernández.

A place in the center Plaça des Padronet, in Maó, was the place chosen by Torrego and Fernández to open an art school for students from the age of 7 and formed by groups. She, with a degree in Art Restoration and Heritage and Art History, has been in charge of giving the classes for children and young people up to 18 years of agewhile his partner, a painter, has given the classes for adults. In 2018, eight years following its opening, the school had more than sixty students. «Not only have we been absolutely admitted to the Island as people, but he has been applauded as an artist, as a painter, me too, the school opened in 2010 and it has always worked well, the first years were the hardest, the Menorcan people are at the beginning a little suspicious, let’s see if you do things right, you have to work for it and show that you are validwe understand it and it is good that it is so, “they say.

During all this time Creae has permanently offered highly scheduled art, drawing and painting classes in all its disciplines, sculpture, ceramics and any discipline related to it within all techniques and styles. He has also organized activities outside the course, in addition to the Meetings with Artists monthly, which have allowed students to chat and share moments with prominent artists. «The school has closed and the workshops were complete, adults, youth and children. Every month between 70 and 80 people attended. And then you count every summer, Easter, the courses we have done, the wedding parties and you can’t imagine all the people who have gone through this school, and then there are the permanent ones we have seen grow, “they point out.

The loyalty of the students is perfectly reflected when, following the confinement decreed by the Government as a result of the covid-19 pandemic, they all went back to class. “Here they all came with a mask, not one failed. There are students who They came the first year and have been until the last momentThey have been unconditional. It has been a great little family that we have formed at school. We leave very satisfied and also very grateful,” they underline.
