Crash, rollover, flames: serious accident in Unzmarkt – Styria

A terrible traffic crash occurred on Murtalstraße on Friday. One car overturned, another burst into flames.

A 46-year-old woman from Murtal was on the S 36 coming from the direction of Judenberg at around 5:30 p.m. Also in the car: her 13-year-old son. In the area of ​​Unterflurstraße Unzmarkt she drove onto a truck. The woman started to overtake and switched to the second lane.

At the same moment, an 18-year-old driver – also from Murtal – rushed behind her at high speed and overtook the woman’s car. The two vehicles collided sideways. The young man’s car began to roll over several times and ended up on the roof. He and his 17-year-old passenger were able to free themselves from the vehicle wreckage.

Driver crashed into tunnel wall

Immediately behind the 18-year-old was a 28-year-old from the Murau district, also apparently at excessive speed. In order to avoid a collision with the two accident vehicles in front of him, the driver braked his vehicle sharply and steered it once morest the tunnel wall. The 28-year-old suffered minor injuries and was taken to the state hospital in Judenburg by the ambulance service. Everyone else involved in the accident was unharmed, police said.

Shortly following the crash, the 18-year-old’s car suddenly started to burn and was fully engulfed in a very short time. The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire brigade. All those involved in the accident were rescued through the tunnel tube. After the clean-up work, the tunnel was released once more at around 10:40 p.m.
