On the eve of the launch of their new generations of gaming graphics cards NVIDIA and AMD have a big problem. The market is the victim of a massive influx of graphics cards. At the same time, demand is in freefall.
Clearly with a massive influx of GeForce RTX 30 and Radeon RX 6000 series, the offer abounds and too few people are interested. Although for several weeks it has been said that Nvidia and AMD should lower their recommended prices (MSRP) this has not yet been done. As a result, the market is in a “critical” position where nothing is respected. This time the situation is to the advantage of the players since the recommended prices are ignored and the graphics cards are sold much cheaper.
In China, the watchword is a massive drop in prices. We are seeing a kind of small panic with retailers lowering their prices and miners selling their cards en masse, creating a very competitive offer. Within a few days the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti crashed to a price of $1415 (-38% off MSRP price). We have the same observation around the GeForce RTX 3090 now at $1266, i.e. -29% of the MSRP.
These price changes also affect AMD solutions. The Radeon RX 6900 is now priced at $744 or -37.5% off the launch price.
The compilation of prices shows that all Radeon RX 6000 series and all GeForce RTX 30 series are available below their recommended prices. The drop is on average 20% at AMD and 19% at Nvidia.
