HERE | From September 28 to October 15, Saint-Louis-de-Blandford celebrates the small tart fruit with Cranberry en fête. An event that allows you to discover or get to know this red delight better.
Organized by the Cranberry Interpretation Center, Cranberry en fête will be in its 27th edition. Even following all these years, the main attraction remains the guided hike, done by cart, directly in the cranberry fields, in harvest at that time. It is quite a spectacle to see the small fruits floating in the basins flooded for the occasion and then being collected.
Two producers agree, year following year, to welcome the many visitors who come to learn more regarding this fruit which remains very mysterious for many. For these visits, which are quite popular on weekends, it is best to reserve your place.
As the coordinator of Canneberge en fête, Isabelle Le Duc, explains, some believe that atoca grows directly in water, which is not the case. Water is used to facilitate harvesting. The fruits, once detached from the plants, rise to the surface and picking is greatly facilitated.
In addition to visiting the fields, people have the opportunity to explore a large interpretation room, revamped a few years ago. At this location, it is possible to see precisely all the stages related to this culture thanks to interpretation panels, video projections as well as a giant model explaining water management, which is so important for this culture.
To complete the visit, a shop with processed cranberry products is accessible and it is also possible to taste some samples there. A catering service (with dishes that highlight the red fruit of course) is also available.
New this year, a swimming pool filled with cranberries (floating in the water) in which people can, for a small fee, take a selfie, following putting on fishing boots. In the background is an image of a cranberry field to add to the scene. A micro-adventure, in collaboration with Tourisme Victoriaville and its region, is also new this year. It is called “A family outing in a cranberry grove” and provides access to the cart tour, a rally for children as well as a taste surprise at the end.
In addition to access to the fields, with the guided tour, it is possible to visit the interpretation center and the shop for free between September 28 and October 15.
