This Friday, the Decathlon parking lot in Dampremy (Charleroi) and the surrounding streets were once once more taken over by an illegal urban rodeo. Dozens of cars gathered to drift around the roundregarding, do “burns” in the parking lot and we were told regarding illegal races on the Brussels roadway.

Burning rubber (from tires) in the underground parking lot triggered a fire alarm. The firefighters from the Hainaut-Est emergency zone arrived quickly on the scene, “nearly missing one of the tuning cars doing anything on the road”, our correspondent on site tells us.

The local residents are exasperated. It is indeed a popular place for the “rassos” of the region. Several of them, who left when help arrived on site, explained that despite police interventions, threats of fines, the positions taken by politicians including those of mayor Paul Magnette, as well as the new legislation allowing seizure the cars were too noisy, the number of these gatherings did not decrease. “We plan to complain directly to the municipal council,” they confided.

Illegal “tuning” gatherings: up to €350 fine for each of the 136 participants in the Decathlon in Dampremy and the Colruyt in Gosselies
