Three people were captured in Medellín and in the municipality of San Jerónimo (Antioquia) after allegedly being part of a criminal organization dedicated to trafficking Asian, African and Caribbean migrants.
“An investigation was carried out against a transnational criminal organization dedicated to the trafficking of migrants from countries such as Pakistan, Haiti, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Nepal, Togo, Guinea, Senegal, Bangladesh, Ghana, Congo, Cameroon, Sierra Leone. , among others, who were looking to travel from Europe and Asia to the United States”said the police.
During the investigation, the authorities managed to establish that the migrants arrived in the South American continent by air to Brazil and from there by land to Ecuador, they made irregular transit to Colombian territory, crossing a large part of the country without any type of control until they reached the municipality of Necoclí, in the department of Antioquia, where they took boats that took them to Capurganá to later cross into Panamanian territory, work that took one or two days through clandestine roads.
“Since before entering Colombian territory, migrants were contacted via instant messaging applications for smartphones by members of a criminal organization that, from Colombia, promised to facilitate, collaborate and allow irregular entry into Colombian territory and also boasted of transporting them. , house them, feed them and process their irregular passage to Panama”the police specified.
According to the Police, the criminal organization, whose presumed leader was Ermilo Vargas Mosqueraknown as ‘Camilo’, it had the capacity to mobilize migrants in private vehicles through applications for interurban and interdepartmental passenger transport services that operate through the Internet, to facilitate irregular transit in Colombian territory from Ipiales and Pasto to Medellín or Necoclí.
