The Wallonia-Brussels Federation will strengthen the fight once morest “fake universities“, these establishments which abuse the name of university, high school or faculty even though they do not issue any officially recognized diploma.
Since 2018, a decree has required these establishments to indicate on all their communication media (prospectuses, websites, etc.) and registration forms that their training courses – often very expensive – are not recognized, and therefore of little value on the market. the job market. In the event of an infraction, these establishments may be subject to administrative fines of up to 5,000 euros.
The adoption of this decree five years ago, however, did not completely put an end to these scams. This is why the FWB government is currently working on strengthening sanctions, with the possibility of imposing criminal measures this time. A draft decree was approved in 2nd reading on July 20 by the government, Minister Françoise Bertieaux (MR) indicated Tuesday in the Parliament committee in response to a question from Rodrigue Demeuse (Ecolo). After receiving the opinion of the Council of State, the government is currently working on the 3rd reading of the draft decree. This should be submitted for adoption to Parliament before the end of this year, the minister said on Tuesday.
