CPI rise in April

The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 1.8% in April compared to the previous month, indicates the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

This variation is the result of the rise of 3.0% in the index of food products and 0.9% in the index of non-food products, explains the HCP in an information note relating to the CPI of the April 2022.

The increases in food products observed between March and April 2022 mainly concern “Fruits” with 12.3%, “Fish and seafood” with 9.8%, “Oils and fats” with 5.0%, “Vegetables” with 2.9%, “Meat” with 1.8%, “Bread and cereals” with 1.4% and “Coffee, tea and cocoa” with 0.3%, reports the HCP, noting that prices, on the other hand, fell by 0.5% for “Milk, cheese and eggs”.

For non-food products, the increase mainly concerned “Fuel” prices with 13.2%.

By city, the largest increases in the CPI were recorded in Al-hoceima with 3.6%, in Fez with 3.3%, in Dakhla with 2.3%, in Oujda, Rabat, Safi and Errachidia with 2.0%, in Kenitra and Tangier with 1.9%, in Marrakech, Meknes and Laâyoune with 1.6%, in Tétouan with 1.5%, in Casablanca and Béni Mellal with 1.3% and in Agadir with 1. .2%.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, the consumer price index recorded an increase of 5.9% during the month of April 2022 as a result of the increase in the index of food products by 9.1 % and that of non-food products by 3.7%, underlines the HCP, adding that for non-food products, the variations range from stagnation for “Health” to an increase of 12.4% for “Transport “.

Under these conditions, the core inflation indicator, which excludes products at volatile prices and products at public prices, would have seen an increase of 0.8% in April 2022 compared to the month of March 2022 and 4.4% compared to April 2021, concludes the HCP.
