“CPEAO: Modernizing Postal Services for Economic and Social Development in West Africa”

The city of Bamako hosted the 5th session of the Board of Directors of the Conference of Posts of West African States (CPEAO), in the presence of representatives of several countries of the sub-region. The purpose of this meeting was to examine the various activity and financial reports of the CPEAO, as well as to define the axes of development for the years to come.

In his opening speech, Prime Minister Choguel Kokalla Maïga stressed the importance of modernize postal services to better meet user expectations and promote the economic and social development of the region. According to him, governments must support this sector in full transformation, which must adapt to new technologies to remain relevant.

The Chairman of the CPEAO Board of Directors, Mohamed Sita Cissé, for his part, insisted on the need to strengthen the capacities of postal sector players in the sub-region. He called on the Member States to set up training and support programs for the agents of the various Posts, as well as to facilitate sub-regional transport.

The vision of the CPEAO is clear: “to place the Post at the heart of the construction of the West African space by considering it as an essential support for economic and social development, and by integrating it into national and regional priorities”.

To achieve this objective, CPEAO is actively working to modernize postal services and improve their quality, while ensuring that they remain accessible to all users.

During this session, the participants will therefore focus on the means to be put in place to strengthen cooperation between the various countries of the sub-region in the field of postal services. They will also discuss innovative solutions to adapt these services to the needs of the populations, particularly in terms of banking.
