The Public Social Action Center in Charleroi was hacked a month and a half ago. Services were disrupted for a few days. We know more about what happened. What data do hackers collect?

The hackers who attacked the Charleroi CPAS viewed and collected data from users of Ukrainian origin, in particular their identity documents. They also viewed data relating to the institution’s staff members.

It was thanks to a specialized external company that the CPAS was able to obtain this information. This company has carried out an analysis on the origins and consequences of this attack.

The agents, like the Ukrainian beneficiaries, victims of the hacking were informed personally, in particular by sending a letter written in Ukrainian. Those affected were given a list of actions to take, for example, changing certain passwords. They also have the possibility of filing a complaint individually. The CPAS has obviously already done this.

Difficult to know more for the moment, the institution only expresses itself via press releases, but it seems that the analysis of this external company also revealed that the attack detected in August began earlier . There would be traces of intrusion into the computer system as early as May. It will be very complicated to identify the authors one day. As is often the case, during cyberattacks, they used numerous systems to cover their tracks.
