Amidst the hustle and bustle of a season filled with midterms and approaching deadlines, students eagerly seek solace in the warm embrace of live music and delectable treats showcased at the Campus Events + Entertainment’s Cozy Concert.
On Wednesday evening, four talented student artists stepped onto the welcoming stage of Cactus Cafe as integral performers in the much-anticipated Cozy Concert. Hot chocolate flowed liberally as Anna Buendia, Camille Stites, Lizzie Budin, and Martin Leon delighted a captivated audience with a soothing mix of original compositions and beloved covers.
“We held this event last year for the first time, and after its tremendous success, we decided to bring it back for another round,” expressed E+E member Peyton Wade. “It’s a truly heartwarming event … and we cherish the opportunity to host activities in this venue. It holds a unique and historic place in the heart of UT.”
Wade, a sophomore majoring in psychology, highlighted how artists expressed their interest through a form shared on the E+E Instagram, followed by a vote among members to select the most desired performers for this year’s lineup. Headliner Martin Leon is no stranger to entertaining crowds, having graced various venues and festivals since the tender age of twelve. As a speech, language, and hearing sciences sophomore, he enjoys gauging the audience’s energy before taking the stage.
“I love meeting with people before the show,” said Leon. “They could easily choose to spend their time elsewhere … but they have decided to spend their evening with you. … That makes it truly special.”
Last year, Leon achieved a significant milestone by signing with UTalent Records, UT’s student-run record label. Chosen from an impressive field of 100 applicants, his collaboration with UTalent Records helped bring his single “FEEL THE SAME” to life in February.
Leon mesmerized the audience with a carefully curated set list designed to take listeners on an emotional rollercoaster ride. In keeping with the cozy atmosphere of the event, Leon mentioned that he and his band focused intently on cultivating a relaxing experience for all attendees.
“Sip your hot chocolate, savor your cookie (and) relish the fact that you’re here on a Wednesday, soaking in some truly chill music,” Leon encouraged. “Picture guitar solos, pulsating drum grooves … simply close your eyes and savor the moment.”
Psychology junior Lizzie Budin, who graced the stage just before Leon, shared that Wednesday was her second opportunity to perform at the iconic Cactus Cafe. After her initial experience at an open mic event, Budin returned to present her cozy set featuring an original track currently in the recording stages at the studio.
Budin’s performance intertwined her sweet, inviting vocals with intricate acoustic guitar melodies, creating a warm and soothing track that perfectly matched the cozy vibes of the evening’s show.
Hitting maximum capacity just ten minutes after the event commenced, the Cozy Concert was a resounding success. Public health freshman Mariana Ramos revealed that she initially stopped by to satisfy her sweet tooth but ended up staying captivated by the charming sounds that filled the air.
“It’s really chill,” Ramos remarked. “I think it’s a fantastic opportunity to discover new artists while also giving them the support they truly deserve.”
Gnificantly expanding his fanbase and gaining traction on streaming platforms. With this year’s Cozy Concert setting a warm and inviting tone, it’s clear that the event has struck a chord with students seeking community.

**Peyton Wade:** Absolutely! The Cozy Concert came about as a response to the stressful midterm season. We wanted to create a space where students could relax, enjoy live music, and savor some hot cocoa. After last year’s success, we knew we had to bring it back. The warmth of the Cactus Cafe adds to that atmosphere, making it feel like a true gathering.
**Editor:** Martin, you’ve been performing since you were twelve. How does it feel to headline this event?
**Martin Leon:** It’s amazing! Each performance gives me the chance to connect with the audience. Knowing they’ve chosen to spend their night here makes it all the more special. The community at UT is so supportive, and I love being part of events like this that really foster that connection.
**Editor:** What kind of atmosphere did you aim to create for the audience?
**Peyton Wade:** We wanted it to be super welcoming and heartwarming. With original pieces mixed in with well-loved covers, we sought to provide something that resonates emotionally with everyone. People should feel like they can just unwind and enjoy the moment.
**Editor:** Martin, what do these kinds of events mean for artists in the student community?
**Martin Leon:** They’re essential. They offer us a platform to showcase our work and reach our peers. It’s also an incredible opportunity for collaboration and inspiration. Every artist brings their unique flavor, and seeing that diversity really enhances the experience.
**Editor:** What’s next for the Cozy Concert, and is there anything special planned for future events?
**Peyton Wade:** We’re already brainstorming for next year! We wish to continue growing this event and maybe even expand our lineup. We love hearing feedback from students about what they want, and we want to keep it fresh while maintaining that cozy atmosphere.
