A total of 1,548 people positive for the coronavirus are currently hospitalized, including 75 patients treated in intensive care, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated on Tuesday morning. Between October 1 and 7, 3,153 new Sars-CoV-2 contaminations were detected on average per day, up 11% compared to the previous week.
Over the same period, 7 people died per day on average while they were carrying the virus (+81%), bringing the death toll to 32,746 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.
Nearly 13,200 tests on average were also carried out daily, for a positivity rate of 25%.
The reproduction rate of the virus is 1.09. When it is greater than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to accelerate. The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 362 over 14 days.
