Covid figures in Belgium this Friday: 2,000 hospitalized, including 101 in intensive care

In total, 2,000 people positive for coronavirus are currently hospitalized, including 101 patients treated in intensive care, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute updated Friday morning. There were 123 on July 18 and 126 on July 25. As a reminder, during the first five waves of Covid-19 in Belgium, the number of patients in intensive care rose to 1,286, 1,474, 946, 840 and 440 respectively (on February 7).

Between July 19 and 25, 4,071 new infectionsto Sars-CoV-2 were screened on average per day, down 35%compared to the previous week.

Over the same period, 12.7 people died per dayon average while they were carriers of the virus (+ 14%), bringing the death toll to 32,228 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

However, these figures need to be qualified due to the long weekend that followed July 21. The number of tests was indeed significantly lower than that of the previous week, without a public holiday. This may have skewed the trend.

Nearly 13,800 tests on average were also carried out daily, for a positivity rate of 32.2%.

The reproduction rate of the virus is 0.94. When it is less than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down. The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 623 over 14 days.
