Nearly 14 million French people have already caught Covid-19 in Metropolitan France, but hundreds of thousands of people have never been infected.
Testimonials
The France has experienced record coronavirus contaminations in recent days with the resurgence of the Omicron variant. Since the start of the pandemic, 14 million French people have tested positive for Covid-19. This figure should be revised upwards, according to the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, following the 370,000 diagnoses on a given day. Despite these figures, hundreds of thousands of people have never been infected since the start of the pandemic. People interviewed during a report by BFMTV testify. “I’m already vaccinated, I have the three doses. And then I’m careful, I have an FFP2 mask to take the metro, there we have distances”, confided Claudine, a Parisian who continues her life. “I don’t know if it’s my genes or if it’s just luck”asks a young man.
Hypotheses
To not catch the Covid-19, many French people have indeed scrupulously followed barrier gestures and social distancing. Researchers have also put forward the hypothesis of a more resistant immune system for certain patients or of a blood group more effective than another in the face of the disease. However, no scientific evidence can support these assumptions. “I think we have to be careful, there are factors, we don’t know them all, we talked regarding vitamin D, we talked regarding zinc.”, explains Dr Robert Sebbag, infectious disease specialist at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital. “But there is not something solid in saying ‘here is this blood group, really, he has no chance’, that we don’t have it”, he added.
